Many lively chapters have filled the pages of our December resident spotlight’s life story.

After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, John Lyons dutifully served as an officer in the U.S. Army for two years. Notably, for one of those years, he was a platoon leader of an amphibious vehicle (tank unloader) in Quy Nhon, South Vietnam.

John met his late wife, Linda, at a party in Chicago, and the couple was married in 1973. They have three children, David, Margaret and Nora, and four grandchildren. “All our children are doing well, which means none of them live with me, and each of them are a step ahead of the sheriff,” John joked.

John’s working years were spent at several interesting locations across the Northeast. He worked for the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI; Brunswick Corporation in Chicago; and city of Champaign, IL, to name a few career highlights. For the last 22 years, he served as finance director for the city of Middletown, OH. In 2013, he was ordained as a permanent deacon in the Catholic church at Holy Family Parish in Middletown, where he still serves.

Linda spent more than 20 years caring for others as a registered nurse at Middletown Regional Hospital. She passed away in the summer of 2019.

John shared, “Ohio Living Mount Pleasant is a good landing spot for me. I have lived here about two and a half years, and in that time, have had both knees replaced. The rehab and physical therapy resources here are top-notch. The food at Café 210 is very good, and the activities coordinator does a wonderful job. Not much for an old person to complain about!”

A fun fact about John’s many adventures is that he spent two seasons working as a security team staff member for the Cincinnati Bengals, as well as an usher for the Cincinnati Reds. He worked the All-Star Game in 2015 and was also in the stadium the night Todd Frazier won the Home Run Derby!
