Ohio Living Llanfair resident John Harrison’s life has taken him across the world. Born in Auckland, New Zealand, John initially studied architecture before realizing his passion for interior design.

John’s early career took him to Sydney’s popular Cabana Imports and then to London, where travel through Europe broadened his design perspective. There, he met a dentist from Dayton, Ohio, whose friendship brought him to the United States.

Cincinnati soon became home. John worked for Milton Okrent Interiors before joining respected designer Walter Farmer. Through the years, he forged a strong following of clients who valued his honesty and ability to listen. Later, as operating vice president of Shilito’s Interior Design Studio, John traveled frequently to Europe to stay ahead of emerging trends.

In 1970, John met his longtime partner and “love of his life,” Robert. The two shared more than 30 years together until Robert’s early passing.

John’s commitment to the arts always took a front row seat, most notably through his work with the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). He served as vice president of the Friends of CCM and co-founded the Harmony Fund, where he went on to champion an array of artistic projects.

John still designs for clients and enjoys collecting art, as well as attending theatre and symphony performances. He is a self-proclaimed “theatre freak.”

After experiencing a series of falls, friends encouraged John to explore senior living options. Though he’d lived on the east side for years, it was Ohio Living Llanfair that immediately felt right.

“I really love my apartment,” John shared. “I’m so content. My balcony, the gardens…I’m incredibly happy here.” John begins each morning on the stationary bike, and he can often be found spending time outdoors or reading.
