Julia joined the Ohio Living Quaker Heights team 10 months ago as a staff educator and has since taken on additional responsibilities as the community’s infection preventionist and assisted living supervisor.
Day-to-day, Julia provides new employee orientation and ongoing education. She also supports competency training and helps keep staff informed about policies and best practices related to infection prevention, resident safety and emergency preparedness.
“Helping staff gain confidence in their knowledge and skills, and watching them grow professionally, is incredibly rewarding,” explained Julia. “My role also contributes to the greater community by helping prepare healthcare workers. I know the competencies they develop in long-term care may someday translate into other healthcare settings.”
Outside of work, Julia enjoys spending time with her husband and two grown daughters. She also loves working in her yard and garden. This December, her family will grow again as they welcome their first grandchild.
Julia encourages anyone considering a career in healthcare to have a genuine heart for helping others. She also recommends being willing to learn and never being afraid to ask questions.
“After 35 years as a registered nurse, I have learned that you won’t always remember every task you completed, but you will remember the people you helped and the difference you made in their lives,” added Julia.
