Women In History Performance Highlights Contributions of Ruth Bader Ginsberg

It was Ruth Bader Ginsburg who said, “Fight for the things you care about, but do it in a way that will lead others to join you.” Youngstown area community members recently enjoyed a Women In History presentation featuring an actress who portrayed Ruth Bader Ginsburg at the Ohio Living Vivo Center. The performance was impressive and enjoyed by all that attended.

Women In History is dedicated to the education of all people, regardless of age, race or socio-economic status through the dramatic recreation of the lives of notable women in history. The Lakewood, Ohio-based group has been performing for schools, churches, civic groups, private clubs, libraries, senior centers and Chautauqua Festivals for over twenty years.

As detailed in the presentation, Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s accomplishments and influence on gender equality are legendary. She became the second female justice of the U.S. Supreme Court. Born in 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, Bader taught at Rutgers University Law School and then at Columbia University, where she became its first female tenured professor. In law school, she was the first person to make both the Columbia and Harvard Law Review.

During her career, she served as the director of the Women’s Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union during the 1970s and argued six landmark gender equality cases before the Supreme Court. She won five. She was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia in 1980. Named to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1993 by President Bill Clinton, she continued to argue for gender equality in such cases as United States v. Virginia until her passing in 2020.

We look forward to welcoming more Women In History presentations throughout 2025 to the Ohio Living Vivo Center.
