As a laundry associate, John plays an important role at Ohio Living Mount Pleasant, where he has worked for the past six years. His team is responsible for washing, drying and folding linens used for residents, including blankets, sheets, towels and washcloths. They also wash residents’ personal clothes, tablecloths and napkins for dining areas, towels for the beauty shop and beyond.
“The most rewarding thing about my job is seeing my favorite residents when I work,” shared John. “Sometimes providing a service you might think is a simple task could mean the world to someone who cannot do it for themselves. I also enjoy my fellow coworkers in both my immediate and neighboring departments.”
For anyone thinking about a career in healthcare, John offers this advice: “Working with older adults is often misrepresented in TV shows and movies. The reality is, many of us work long hours, sometimes sacrificing time with our families, to ensure our residents are well cared for. And it’s not just the nurses or aides – every department plays a role, from transportation to housekeeping, culinary, laundry, maintenance and beyond. We all share the same goal: to prioritize the well-being of our residents.”
Beyond work, John enjoys reading, watching TV, and collecting baseball cards, a hobby he's had since 1987 when his grandfather bought him his first pack. He's a passionate sports fan and shares his home with his fiancé, Michelle, and their cat.
