January 2024 Resident Spotlight: Tim & Susan Short

Tim and Susan Short’s love story started in high school and has continued for nearly 60 years. The Ohio Living Mount Pleasant couple has two sons and five grandchildren, whom they consider to be their pride and joy.

During their undergraduate years, Tim attended Miami University, University of Alabama and Auburn University, while Susan earned her degree in fashion advertising, merchandising and design. Tim then spent four years in the U.S. Air Force before transitioning to his job of more than 30 years with Armco/AK Steel Holdings Corporation. Susan stayed home to raise their children, but later took a job in human resources with McAlpine’s.

“I learned how to properly keep score in baseball and what all the position numbers were,” explained Susan, who considers herself a true optimist. “Through pouring rain, snow or scalding heat, I was a present activities mom, and I never let my boys hear me complain.”

Both Tim and Susan agree that their greatest accomplishment has been raising self-sufficient sons who in turn, have raised incredible children. “We are both very proud,” they added.

These days, Tim and Susan enjoy spending their time volunteering and traveling. For the last 15 years, the couple has given their time to usher at the Cincinnati Music Hall and Cincinnati Aronoff Center. On the travel front, they took an especially memorable escapade to Africa.

“On one of our trips to Africa, the chief wanted to sit down and enjoy a drink with some of us in the group,” shared Susan. “No one wanted to partake, because of the ingredients of the drink’s mixture – cow blood and goat milk! Tim stepped up and did his duty, and the chief was very happy. He’ll try anything once!”

Susan also advised, “If you or someone you know is thinking about moving to Ohio Living Mount Pleasant, don’t hesitate like we did. We never get tired of making new friends here. Coming early is the right move!”
