Caring for people comes naturally to Lisa, the Housekeeping Supervisor at Ohio Living Quaker Heights, and extends far beyond her job description.
“For me, it’s all about the happiness of my residents,” explained Lisa, who began her journey as an agency employee and, after six months, was offered a permanent position. “I feel like I make a difference with the residents by lending a listening ear. Aides and nurses do not have always time to sit and talk with one resident; it is everyone’s job to make our campus a wonderful place for them to live.”
The housekeeping team plays an essential role in keeping Ohio Living Quaker Heights clean and welcoming. From maintaining sanitized rooms to providing fresh linens and clean clothing, their work helps residents feel comfortable in their living spaces.
The most rewarding part of Lisa’s job is seeing the happiness these efforts create. A smile from a resident, whether from a clean room or a kind conversation, reminds her why the work matters.
“When working in healthcare you will care for people who are scared, confused and unsure of what is going on,” Lisa relayed. “You need to bring a great deal of compassion and empathy and be able to put yourself in their shoes. We are not just housekeepers, we are companions…we become friends and family for our residents.”
Outside of work, Lisa’s greatest joy is her family. She has three children and eleven grandchildren. In her free time, she likes playing basketball and working on puzzles.
