Social Work Month Spotlight: Caitlin D.

From intern to director, Caitlin has gained invaluable experience and grown tremendously during her nearly eight years at Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber. She started in 2017 as a social work intern and after graduating with her master’s degree, transitioned to the admissions department and later, social services. Today, Caitlin serves as the director of social services, overseeing the assisted living and memory care portions of campus, along with supporting the skilled nursing social services team.

“I love working with the residents and families as they navigate the aging process, because for many of them, it is the first experience they’ve had with needing extra care and support which is often scary,” relayed Caitlin. “I make an impact in the transition from independent living to assisted living care by anticipating the difficulties they may have and offering support and guidance along the way. Once in assisted living, I am a trusted person they can always seek out as needs arise.”

Outside of work, Caitlin and her husband of eight years, Alex, enjoy life with their ten-month-old son, Declan. They love spending time outdoors, whether it's going for walks, running or rock climbing. Exploring new cities and traveling together is also one of their favorite pastimes.
