Discharge planning is at the heart of Mike’s role as a social worker, where he handles everything from navigating insurance challenges and ordering medical equipment to collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to ensure patient safety and deliver excellent care. He joined the team at Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber five years ago, where he specifically aids short- and long-term rehabilitation residents and their families.
“Healthcare is a very interesting and exciting area to pursue in the social work field,” said Mike. “Our aging population is ever increasing, which brings increased job security. Ultimately, if someone is looking to help elders and their families navigate through end-of-life issues and family dynamics, then working in healthcare will be your calling.”
In addition to his defined work responsibilities, Mike is a proud member of the bimonthly Ohio Living Westminster-Thurber resident luncheon planning committee, which has featured tasty eats from White Castle and Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, among others. “I get great joy from seeing how much the residents enjoy this simple pleasure,” he added.
In his free time, Mike loves playing the bass guitar, cooking, playing rugby and traveling to visit his family in Florida. He lives with his girlfriend, Becky, and two awesome cats, Steven and Cricket.
