As Social Work Month unfolds, we are delighted to spotlight a few of our exceptional social workers at Ohio Living Breckenridge Village. For more than seven years, Rebecca has provided care management and mental health support to independent living residents on campus, and her goal is to help them, and their families navigate the support systems within our continuum of care.
“I typically reach out to residents if they’ve had a fall, gone to the hospital, returned home from rehab or experienced a recent change in functional status, as these are key times when additional resources may be needed to meet their needs,” explained Rebecca. “I also provide mental health support through 1:1 visits, support groups and pet therapy with my puppy Peaches, who is in training to be a therapy dog.”
Rebecca considers it an honor to learn from the wisdom and experiences of Ohio Living Breckenridge Village residents. “Listening to the stories of our residents gives me tremendous perspective on life,” she shared. “I love the ‘a-ha’ moment when I introduce a resident to a service they didn’t know much about and see relief wash over their face when they realize that there is a network of support available to them. It lifts me up when I connect residents with services that meet their needs.”
Outside of work, jogging, baking and family time top the list of Rebecca’s favorite things. She lives with her husband and two daughters, who are five and seven. Her family also includes a menagerie of pets, including two dogs, a cat and a fish.
