April 2025 Resident Spotlight: Charmlin and Sharilyn Howard

It’s not every day that a blind date leads to happily ever after, but for David and Carole Schul, this was the case! The pair met in college in 1962 and have spent more than 60 years enjoying life together.

During their working years, David served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and held various positions with the city of Middletown, Ohio. He retired in 1994 as assistant city manager. Meanwhile, Carole taught kindergarten for 30 years and later, went on to lead the First Presbyterian Church in Middletown’s Nursery School for 15 years.

The couple has one son, Christopher. Christopher works for the FBI and resides in Georgia with his wife Elizabeth. Their granddaughter, Lilly, just turned 19 and will be attending the University of North Georgia in the fall.

The Schuls enjoy playing cards and reading, as well as participating in all the activities happening at Ohio Living Mount Pleasant. Over the years, they have been involved in many different groups and recognized by several organizations. Interestingly, they even spent an afternoon on the Japanese island of Iwo Jima.

“Be kind to one another and always be considerate of other people’s feelings and ideas,” they encouraged. “Always be willing to get involved with the community too.”
