Briana's journey with Ohio Living Sarah Moore began 11 years ago in the medical records department, during a transition from paper files to electronic records. When the social worker position opened at the community shortly thereafter, Briana stepped in, eager to learn and serve. Despite having no formal background in social work at the time, she embraced the challenge and discovered a passion for working with seniors that has guided her career ever since.
“I love working with the residents and talking with them,” Briana shared. “I never had a job I enjoyed so much that I would consider going back to school for, but the older adult population really resonated with me.”
Over the years, Briana pursued her bachelor’s degree in social work from Walden University, balancing coursework, family life and her responsibilities at Ohio Living Sarah Moore. Supported by Ohio Living’s tuition reimbursement program, she is now preparing for licensure.
For Briana, what makes senior living social work meaningful is the relationships she forms with residents and their families.
“You become part of their lives in a very real way,” said Briana. “It’s not always easy, but the rewards are profound. The good outweighs the bad and you are exposed to so much wisdom and what really matters in life.” She encourages anyone interested in the field to volunteer first to see if it is the right fit.
Outside of work, Briana recharges with her family and emphasizes the importance of balance and self-care. Her journey from medical records to social work is a testament to her dedication and resilience, qualities that make a lasting impact on the lives of the seniors she serves.
