From valedictorian at Middletown High School to graduating summa cum laude from Miami University, Brenda Howard knows a thing or two about exceeding expectations.
Right after high school, Brenda began working at Armco. Thanks to Armco’s college tuition support program, she launched a career while attending college at night and on the weekends. Brenda went on to spend an impressive 44 years in corporate tax accounting with Armco and Deloitte & Touche, becoming a pioneer in the use of computer technology for tax work as early as the 1970s.
Though Brenda never married or had children of her own, family remains an important part of her life. After the loss of her sister to breast cancer, she grew especially close to her cousin, who lives locally. Her cousin’s children have even become like nieces and nephews to her.
Brenda’s hobbies have spanned a little bit of everything over the years. Tennis, jazzercise, sewing, knitting and horseback trail riding are a few of her favorite activities. She’s traveled widely, but her favorite lifelong escape is through books…especially a good mystery! A proud Svengoolie superfan, she also has a soft spot for classic sci-fi and horror films.
These days, Brenda shares her home with Margaux Hemingway, a charming black "mitten-pawed" cat (aka Hemingway cat) who keeps her on her toes. She notes that she “loves the Ohio Living Mount Pleasant community. We laugh a lot and are family.”
