Ohio Living Board Member Spotlight: Dawn Hays

“I’ve been taught that gratitude is an action word,” shared Ohio Living Board Member Dawn Hays, Esq., who serves as Chief of Strategy & Growth of the Columbus Bar Association. “I can’t just be thankful – I’ve got to do something to show that I am.”

Hays’ service to others through many organizations, including Ohio Living and I Am Boundless, Inc., adds to her remarkable career as a human resources executive, employment law attorney and Army veteran. Her vast leadership experience spans several industries, having previously worked as Advisor/VP of Organizational Effectiveness & DEO for Hologram, Inc.; Chief Diversity & Belonging Officer/VP of People/HR Attorney for Root, Inc.; and General Counsel for the Employers Resource Association.

“I choose to serve on the Ohio Living Board because of the organizational mission and purpose,” affirmed Hays. “I am grateful for the privilege of living in Central Ohio where my daughter with autism receives the support and services required to lead life with self-determination and dignity. Ohio Living does just that for a wide range of Ohioans through its residential, medical and hospice services. The team is trusting, dynamic and high impact. I'm always curious to learn more about high-functioning teams, so being asked to serve on the board allows me to be of service and learn at the same time.”

Throughout her career, Hays has been consistently recognized for her hard work and excellence. While serving in the U.S. Army, she received Army Achievement & National Defense Service Medals, as well as an Expert Marksmanship Badge. She is also previous recipient of Columbus Business First’s “40 Under 40” award and was designated an Ohio Super Lawyer Rising Star.

Beyond the board room, she enjoys thrifting authentic mid-century modern décor and furniture. So much so, that she invested in a warehouse and accompanying business license to resell it. “I am also really good at laughing at my own jokes,” she added. “Loudly – in case no one else does!”
